Lia Kes followed a unique path to achieving success as a contemporary American designer. The Kibbutz Afikim native spent two years in the Israeli Air Force and received her Bachelors Degree from Shenkar University in Tel Aviv. In 2000, she moved to New York City with just one hundred dollars and a few T-shirt samples. Nine years and three collections later, Kes’ soft draping and tough details have made fans of celebrities such as Kate Hudson, Kim Kardashian, Chelsea Clinton, and Maggie Grace. In addition, her unique silhouettes and unexpected cuts have grabbed the attention of editors at Cosmopolitan, In Style, Life & Style, Lucky, Marie Claire, OK, US, WWD, Daily Candy, and Fashion Week Daily, among others.
Kes believes in women showing their intellect as well as their sensuality to achieve more in life. She designs her clothes for those with the zest and passion to follow their dreams. I think this is what makes her and her new Spring 2010 collection so interesting. I believe in women whose path has been unconventional, and whose journey has made them a multi-faceted gem of insight, experience, and wisdom. To me, this makes a person’s work richer, particularly in creative fields. These elements are evident in Kes’ garments, and I hope to wear while creating my own eclectic journey towards success.
